Letβs Meet....
Cheryl Morgan β Lead Officer
Training & Development
How long have you been with Fife Council and how long with Employability Services?
15 years and 4 months (15 years with Supported Employment Service and 4 months with Training & Development Team)
How has Employability Services changed, if at all?
When I first started with the then Fife Employability Team we sat within Social Work, then in 2015 we moved over to Economic, Planning and Employability Service. Moving away from the more "therapeutic" and vocational work and more in line with business/ employer need and supporting clients to access more sustainable employment opportunities. Over the last 9 years opportunities for clients have moved towards being more sector led, and more opportunities have been created to bridge the gap for those furthest from the labour market, including alternative recruitment practices.
What team are you currently with? What is your role today?
Lead Officer for the Training & Development Team, which comprises of Modern Apprenticeship Team, Foundation Apprenticeship Team and the Community Improvement Squad delivery.
How has your role changed over the past 5 years?
I only moved into my role in October 2024 so it's all still new to me π
What has been the most memorable moment during your time with your employability team? Far too many to mention!
Securing my Senior Employability Coordinator post and then more recently my Lead Officer post has been two of my personal highlights, as well as meeting some incredible people along the way!!
Would you say employability is a good choice of career?
It's hard work, and can be very frustrating as we are supporting people to overcome so many barriers, not limited to discrimination and unfair recruitment practices, as well as managing a challenging landscape of temporary funding and changing government focuses..... but it is so rewarding and can have such a massively positive impact on individual's whole lives, not just where they work!
If you are an employer our one of our Service Directorates, we can support you for recruitment, we can help promote additional jobs, Modern Apprenticeships and provide support on multiple fronts. For eligible clients there may be funding support available. If you would like more information, drop us an email at β FJC@fife.gov.uk
